About Ours

nasaThis installation is a sequence of Yours, an interactive animation of Barbara Kapelj Osredkar presented at Skuc Gallery and the SEM Cafe within the context of the 13th City of Women Festival, this time in a performative form.

The audio-visual monument Ours is an event conceived for a specific place, which summarises individual elements of visual messages produced on Slovene territory between 1920 and 1970. The place which brought together women addressed in Slovene advertisement posters from the said period is a market square whose contemporary equivalent is undoubtedly the square in front of the national Ethnographic Museum. The role of women in these posters is particularly related to aspects of creation: the home, family, manufactures, homeland, and cleanliness. During the event, three performers are to build a monumental commemoration to Her, to Ours – a memorial to posters of Slovene women. The event is designed as a collective construction and takes place as a series, a collage of songs popular during that era. While the songs are being performed, a “poster” is actually being constructed, drawn on the ground as a mosaic of candles and bricks laid by the protagonists.

The trails of women’s writing, the flashes, the fragments of writing dedicated to a woman build up as a memory of long-forgotten times at the threshold of the contemporary, and leave behind nostalgia for that which is long gone and inscribed in our roots.

The construction works are performed by actress Jelena Rusjan, visual artist and vocalist Neza Trobec-Teropsic, who performs with the groups Godalika, Sur, and Neza Zinaic, and visual artist and violinist in the Compe music group together with the Aunt Zefa’s Girls Chorus.

Gledališko plesno prostorska instalacija in performans Naša
